The character that I am choosing is Dwight Schrute from NBC’s comedy “The Office.” Dwight is an off-beat and slightly odd character whose best friend is Michael Scott his boss. Despite being a little off the beaten path Dwight is Dunder Mifflins top sales person and he has been recognized for it many times. Dwight is not shy about how he feels and it is very easy to see how Dwight views life. He is definitely a nerd and enjoys Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and Harry Potter. He also idolizes fictional TV characters like Jack Bauer from “24.” He is very authoritative and if given any power will take advantage of it. This is exemplified when he is put in charge of the office and decided to make his own currency that the employees had to use while working. He also constantly refers to himself as Assistant Regional Manager to make himself sound important even though his real title is Assistant to the Regional Manager. His little sense of humor and commanding personality may be why he is such a great sales person. He is able to push people into sales and make them buy products.

Dwight was a twin but he resorbed his twin while still in the womb. He now believes that he has the strength of a grown man and a little baby. He also claims that he was born over 13lbs and after birth his mother could not walk for about three months. He was shunned from his family from the ages of four to six because he forgot to save the excess oil from a can of tuna. Dwight’s father who was also named Dwight Schrute had high blood pressure and was obese but often took Dwight hunting. Dwights grandfather fought in World War II and apparently killed twenty men before he ended up in an allied prison camp. It has been implied that Dwights grandparents were Nazi’s. Dwights growing up does not sounds like it made him popular while growing up which probably lead to his neediness and obsession with heroes. He had to turn to other hobbies and people to entertain him while growing up.
