Introduction
In the drug strategies of many countries, prevention strategy, which refers to approaches that prevent people from taking up drugs, acquires a crucial role because reductions in demand cut off drug supplies and relating harms from the source (Botvin & Griffin 2001, p.39). In drug prevention, protecting young people from drugs is a key issue as they are more vulnerable in drug problems. Preventing young people from drug problems is one of the priorities of UK 2010 Drug Strategy, which provides specific approaches in dealing with this issue. In this aspect, Australia needs to learn from UK policy and develop its own approaches concerning this issue. This essay is mainly divided into four parts. It starts by reviewing how Australia addresses this issue in its National Drug Strategy, based on which the essay further discusses why this proposal is not powerful enough. Then the essay provides detailed information about how UK addresses the drug prevention of young people in its drug strategy. And the essay provides suggestions to improve the Australian strategy drawing on the UK policy.
