Drought in Thar

Tharparkar Deputy Commissioner (DC) Asif Ikram said on Friday that the main cause of drought in Thar was shortage of water which caused due to lesser rain in the region. He said this while chairing a meeting with delegation of non-government organisations (NGO) regarding the relief work for drought affectees. The DC informed the meeting that the Sindh government had announced the Thar Development Authority to overcome the drought-hit situation. He further informed that the relief aid was provided to 253,116 families in Thar and besides this, 129,558 bags of wheat were distributed so far. He said the process of vaccination among the cattle was also under progress and about 30,58,491 cattle were vaccinated till date. On the occasion, the district health department briefed the meeting regarding the medical facilities being provided to affected families in the district. Assistant Commissioner Shoukat Ujan, NDMA member and other officials were present on the occasion.
