1. General Statement of Duties
Performs work in the operation of a vehicle to assure safe transportation of clients to and from various destinations and to assist clients on entry and exit from vehicles as necessary.
2. Distinguishing Features of the Class
An employee in this class drives a van or bus over a scheduled route to transport individuals to and from senior services, human services organizations, work sites, educational institutions, medical facilities, grocery stores, drug stores, and other desired locations. Additional responsibilities include maintaining a variety of records, such as time at each stop, purpose of trip, number of passengers per day, mileage, and vehicle maintenance. Independent judgment must be exercised in handling unusual situations arising with passengers. Employees receive direction and route assignments from the dispatcher. Employees are supervised by the Transportation Coordinator. Work is reviewed through observation and review of records.
3. Illustrative Examples of Work
Drives an assigned route to transport individuals to and from various human service locations, work sites, educational institutions, medical facilities, grocery stores, drug stores, and other locations.
Assumes responsibility for care and maintenance of van; washes van and cleans interior; takes van to garage for maintenance and repair.
May operate a van to transport meals to various nutrition sites.
Assists passengers in getting in and out of vehicles, and other courtesies.
Assists passengers in securing wheelchairs and other mobility devices.
Performs related duties as required.
