Dream on is a song performed by Aerosmith written by the lead singer Steven Tyler. It was released in the 1970s, but till now, still many famous singers covering this song. Through this song, Steven Tyler wanted to deliver a message that we should learn from the past, treasure the present, never lose our dreams towards our future and to appreciate our lives.

For its structure, this song mainly divides into three different parts which talks about the past, present and the future respectively. The first verse is about the singers could feel the time was keep going on and it was irreversible by saying that “his lines on his face getting clearer”. It then used “going by like dusk to dawn”, which is something that’s always true to describe everybody must have their dues in life to pay, meaning that sometimes we may face failure because of our past faults. In the next verse, the singers deliver a message that we should have experienced failure before we could succeed by saying “you got to lose to know how to win”. The third verse is to summarize the idea of the singers that he believed that we couldn’t change the past and he used written pages to symbolize our past lives. What we could do is to learn from the past and we can eventually get what we deserve.

In the fourth verse, the song moves to talk about the present. From the lyrics “Sing for the years, sing for the laughter and sing for the tears”, the singers wished everyone could appreciate every bits in their lives, no matter ups or downs since that’s what the ingredients making up to who you are now. On the other hand, from the lyrics “maybe tomorrow the good lord will take you away”, the singers wanted to bring out we should treasure what we have now in the present, for tomorrow is undefined.

In the last verse, the song finally moves to talk about our dream towards the future. “Dream on, dream on, and dream until your dream comes true.” It encourages everyone should continue to pursue our dream,...
