One person’s procrastination can be the next person’s good time management. Something we all have to face is the difficulty of fitting our aspirations (what we intend and hope to do) into the time available. We all have to juggle and prioritise and this involves both conscious and unconscious decisions. Leaving tasks until the last minute may be a perfectly sensible way of managing time. But it may qualify as procrastination, if ‘the last minute’ is in fact too late or not long enough, or if we fail to become active even at this stage, or we experience very high levels of anxiety and feel that we have failed. Very few students, if any, will always pace their work well, but some students have a constant battle to make themselves get on with their work. Reasons for this can be complex, and if this is something you struggle with, it may be worth while trying to work out what’s going on, rather than going round the familiar old track of putting of your work until it’s too late to complete it to an acceptable standard, seeking an extension, which means starting your next piece of work late, finally getting it all submitted and promising yourself that NEXT time you’ll be more organised, if only for the sake of your stress levels. And what happens next time…….?!
