Dorm Life
Students at universities often have a choice of places to live. They may choose to live in university dormitories, or they may choose to live in apartments in the community. Which place would you prefer to live in? Give reasons for your preference. When students start going to university, they are presented with choices in regards to living arrangements. Some students prefer to live in university dormitories for various reasons while other students prefer to take apartments off campus in the community. As for me, I would prefer to have an apartment off campus because it would allow me to concentrate better on the work I have to do, and by living in an apartment I would be able to maintain the high level of privacy that I enjoy. In the first place, students who choose to have an apartment off campus will find that they will be able to concentrate more on their schoolwork. For instance, I lived in a university dormitory for the first two semesters of my university career. While it was fun having all of my friends close by, I was not really able to concentrate on my schoolwork. In fact, when I had very serious work to do, I often had to go to the university library to find the peace and quiet needed to do the work. However, in an apartment, students usually had fewer peers and roommates, so they could be exposed to fewer distractions. I found this to be the case when I moved from the dormitory to my own apartment off campus. Moreover, living in an apartment is better for maintaining preferred levels of privacy. I am a very private person in that I do not like everyone knowing my business. While you live in a dormitory, it is very difficult keeping your private life separate from all the other residents that surround you at any given time. People are always asking you questions and wanting to know what is going on in your life. However, when you live off campus in your own apartment, you can have as much privacy as you wish. Everyone has their

Living on campus is another stressful aspect of my life as a college student. Even though there is a sense of freedom that comes with having your own place to live, it still is a large responsibility to manage. Paying rent while also taking maintaining a stable living environment takes quite a bit of effort and, fortunately, I have survived at least one semester. The dorms that we live in now are far from the best. We live in a 10 x 10 box; well that's how it seems anyway. Our dorms have 2 beds, 2 desks, 2 closets, and a sink. We got lucky with the sink, but that doesn't make living in our hall any better than anywhere else. In the little rooms we also have to fit our TV, refrigerator and a microwave. With everything in place there is just enough room to walk around. One thing that causes problems in storage, storage in the dorms is very limited. We have an adjustable thermostat so we can control our own room temperature, but it often breaks and air conditioning goes out; that's no fun. We don't have bathrooms and not having a bathroom in our rooms is a pain in the butt. Why would anyone want to walk down the hallway at 2am just to go to the bathroom? The bathrooms in the dorms we have now are very unsanitary and disgusting too. I think bathrooms should be in all the rooms, just for convenience. All of the doors in our rooms have key locks and they do not lock behind you. Some people forget to lock the door and that often leads to serious situations…

In my opinion, “peaceful setting,” is wrong. I say this because my friends and I have had some incidents where it was not. The noise issue is a big deal to some students, but, there is always noise not matter what time or day it is. Unless you’re on a designated quiet floor, students must learn to ignore everything around them while they are doing anything. In the dorms, there is always loud music, people gossiping and laughing, and television. All can which be very distracting at times when you are trying to study or sleep. Although most dorms have a rule that quiet hours are after ten or elven at night (on the weekdays).…

Living on-campus will allow you to meet more people and establish more friendships than if you live off-campus. Living in a dorm means that there will always be someone around to hang out with. You will also usually be aware of any campus activities and how to be involved in them. For example, you are doing homework on your desk, and your neighbor stop by telling you there is a cook out just started near the library. So you can either keep working or throw up your pen and go have a hotdog. That is not easy if you live off-campus.…

Nowadays, a lot of attention has been drawn to the issue of whether college students should live alone outside the campus or live together with other roommates in the students’ dormitory. Opinions are divided on this issue. Those who are in favor of living with roommates have their own advantages. With several students sharing the same room, they could learn how to tolerate the difference between individuals. However, others argue that students who live outside campus could have their own timetable without disturbing others. Additionally, they could be more mature for their experience could be greatly enriched in real world. Especially for international students, they can fit in to the new environment much faster for they live in the real world so that they could become independent. In other words, they could adjust themselves quite well when they leave campus to work. As far as I’m concerned, I prefer to live off campus for I have three reasons.…
