Dominican Republic
Dominican Republic is the largest economy in the Caribbean and Central America.   It is considered a lower-middle income developing country.   Right after the economy boom in 1990s, Dominican Republic has been expanding at an average rate of 7.7% per year.   For a number of years, the country relied strongly on its agricultural export.   In the agricultural sector, sugarcane is the chief crop and accounts for a high percentage of the countries exported products. Other major crops include coffee, cotton, cocoa, tobacco, and rice.   In today’s economy, Dominican Republic has strongly relied on its tourism industry.   Other sectors including agricultural, telecommunications, and Free Trade Zone manufacturing are also a major part of the economy.   Based on the 2008 data,   the service sector in Dominican Republic including tourism and transportation is 58.6%, agriculture accounted for 6.5%, and industry of 27.4% of GDP ("Dominican republic," 2009). ...
