My Cherished Possession
Different possessions have different meanings. People can have the same possessions, but they may value them differently. People have possessions for different reasons and different people will cherish different objects and treasure them in different ways, too. As defined by Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary, the word cherish is “ to love somebody or something very much and want to protect them or it.” When I am thinking about possessions, it reminds me of a lot of objects that I have always wanted to own. One day when I was young, my mom said to me “ what is the first object that I would buy at a time when I have a family and money?” I said,” Mom, if I could, I would buy a car.” She told me, “Whenever I go, whatever I do, whenever I have money and family, the first possession that should be important in my life is a home.” My mom told me that a home is one of the possessions that is really important in people’s lives. Some people might think that a home is just a home, and home might mean nothing to them, but I cherish my home because it is special to my family and I.
My home is really special to both my husband and I because we sacrificed a lot. The word sacrifice means “ the act of giving up something important or valuable to someone in order to get or do something that seems more important.” Buying a house is not really easy for a couple that just got married. My husband and I are working hard to save a lot of money. As a new couple, we are supposed to have a lot of fun and we are not supposed to work and just to earn money, but we could not spend that money. All the money that we have earned is just to save in order to buy a house. For example, February 14, 2009, was my first anniversary and we should have celebrated by having a dinner or at least we should have done something, but we did not do anything.
