The source of steel is iron ore which is the existing form of iron (Fe) in the nature. The pure iron does not exist. The iron ore mainly has three types such as magnetite, hematite, and limonite. They are all iron oxides but with different oxidation. The higher iron content it has, the better quality it was. The highest iron ore content is about 72% in the theory. The iron content in more than 60% of iron ore is called rich iron ore. The iron ore after processed by the jaw crusher at fist. Steelmaking is the second step in producing steel from iron ore. In this stage, impurities such as sulfur, phosphorus, and excess carbon are removed from the raw iron, and alloying elements such as manganese, nickel, chromium and vanadium are added to produce the exact steel required. Modern steelmaking processes are broken into two categories: primary and secondary steelmaking. Primary steelmaking uses mostly new iron as the feedstock, usually from a blast furnace. Secondary steelmaking uses scrap steel as the primary raw material. Gases created during the production of steel can be used as a source of power. The difference between iron and steel

Iron is an element, steel is an alloy. Steel is made from Iron. It is an alloy made up of iron and carbon. Other metals can also be added to steel to produce alloys with different characteristics. For instance steel with chromium added is stainless steel. Unlike regular steel it doesn’t rust. Steel is used extensively in buildings. Steel beams, studs, nails, bolts, doors, and siding are commonly used in residential construction. I believe ramrod and wire mesh used in cement is made of iron. In larger buildings steel is used even more in the structures of the buildings. Iron was used first, then cast iron, then wrought iron, and now steel. We use steel instead or iron because it’s stronger than iron; superior in tension and compression.
