n Tea was discovered in China in 2737 BC. Its popularity spread to Japan, other parts of Asia and Europe, before Peter Stuyvesant introduced it to America in 1650. There are six varieties of tea: black; green; white; yellow; oolong and pu-erh, and according to the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization, more than 3 million tons of tea is produced annually; the majority of it from China, India, Kenya, Sri-Lanka and Turkey. Tea is distributed through retail, wholesale and distribution channels. Distributors stock large inventories to supply to large retail vendors such as grocery stores, hotels, and restaurant chains.
