Nowadays, organization behaviors are very important part of manage employees. There are many kind of behaviors we need to learn and realized. Such as, the individual, the group, the organization and so on. This discussion I am going to represent is about the relationship between ability and biographical characteristics of individual behaviors. Because individual differences in the from of ability and biographical characteristics affect employees performance and satisfaction. (pg44, Robbins, S., Judge, TA., B., Waters-Marsh, T. 2008, Organisational Behaviors). There are two important implications: first, the idea that personality is stable and enduring implies that it is possible to identify an individual’s ability and bipgraphical characteristics. The second implication is that if the characteristics are identified they can be used to predict the person’s behavioural dispositions.
Ability refers to an individual’s capacity to perform the various task in a job. An individual’s overall abilities are essentially made up of two part of factors: intellectual ability and physical ability. In psychology ability has much more rigorous meaning than that used in everyday conversation. Biographical characteristics would be an employee’s age, gender, marital status, ethnicity and race, and length of service with an organization.
Just as people can be distinguished in terms of their physical characteristics, individuals tend to think in slightly different ways, and experience and interpret their environment in a unique fashion. (David J Edwards, Organisational behaviour and analysis, 1998). Most of us recognize this in others, and routinely use words to distinguish people in terms of their mental characteristics, says for example that someone is moody, likely, morose. A person’s job performance sometimes fits ability-job who has biographical characteristics. Employee performance is enhanced when there is a highly ability- job. So both of ability and biographical characteristics would affect the behaviour of employees. Ability is the most important part of job performance.
The relationship between age and job performance-ability is likely to be an issue of increasing importance during the job. There are at least three points. First，in job performance has a widespread belief that ability declines with increasing age. A number of positive qualities that older employees brings to their job: specifically, experience, judgment, a strong work ethic and commitment to quality. They are all important parts of ability. There is a widespread belief that productivity declines with age. It is often assumed that an individual’s ability skill-specially speed, agility, 1
strength and coordination- decay over time and that prolonged job boredom and lack of intellectual stimulation all contribute to reduced productivity. The natural result is that the demands of most jobs, even those with heavy manual labour requirements, aren’t extreme enough for any declines in physical skills attributable to age to have an impact on productivity; or, if there is some decay due to age, it is offset by gains due to experience. In fact, most relationship between age and ability is a positive association.
Few issues initiate more debates, misconceptions and unsupported opinions than whether women perform as well on jobs as men do.(pg50, Robbins, S., Judge, TA., B., Waters-Marsh, T. 2008, Organisational Behaviors). The investigation advices that the best place to start is with the realization that there are few, if any, important differences between men and women that will affect their job performance. For example, both male and female difference in problem-working out ability, analytical skills, competitive drive, motivation, or learning ability. However, ability will influence work schedules, employees has preschool-age...
