Question: Discuss how today’s managers use the behavioural approach.
Managers today use various methods to apply behaviour approach. They need to identify the reasons that influence the performance of their employees. One of the ways that managers practice is observing the action and interactions through CCTV (closed-circuit television). Through the CCTV, the managers can some sort know what the employees did during they work. Whether they are performing well, working as team with other employees or being destructive to its working environment. This is convenient for the managers because they don’t have to be in the work place all the time. They can observe and identify employee’s performance and behaviour with the access of the internet or watch it through playback. Bandar Tasik Selatan Integrated Transport Terminal has 350 CCTV cameras within the complex to monitor criminal activities, customer’s behaviour and trends and employee’s performance as well.
Another method can be through peer review. In a working environment, employees interact with their colleagues. Their colleagues will know exactly how the employee acts when he/she is working. Whether he/she is slacking off, bad mouthing other colleagues or being dedicated to his/her work. Peer review is commonly used in a lot of companies especially in law firms. In Foley & Lardner LLP, Martindale-Hubbell is the facilitator of the peer review rating process. Foley was a Top 10 firm on the U.S. News – Best Lawyers 2010 “Best Law Firms” list, based on the total number of first-tier metropolitan rankings.
