Discipline and Ethics
As a manager discipline is something that cannot be ignored. It is something that is dealt with in every job by every manager. The way that it is handled can make a big difference on how it affects the employee, the company and the management. As a manager who has managed businesses for over 16 years I have found along the way that my way of disciplining employees has changed. The way I disciplined 15 years ago is not the way I do it today. It is through trial and error, how I got to where I am today on how I discipline my employees.
Through the years I have found that by using my authority to discipline an employee does not always work well in the long run, or at least it did not work for me. I used to not care what an employee thought of me as long as I was right. I was the one in charge and if I thought they did wrong I did not care how I approached the situation as long as it was dealt with, and done in a timely manner as well. Although I do not let the way an employee feels about me affect my decision it does sometimes bother me if they do get angry with me. The approach I now like to take is to communicate with my employees and find out what is going on and try to be understanding to what is going on in their lives and try to work through the problem.
I find one of my stronger points that sets me apart from my fellow managers is my ability to be consistent to each and every employee, rather it be my family member or a friend of the owner of the business. I do personally believe that each and every person who signs the employee handbook which states what is expected of them as an employee and what is expected of me as a manager, that we both need to be held

accountable for what we signed. I do like to put myself in their shoes and try to understand what is going on and how we can fix the problem, but rules... [continues]
