What are some measures a company may take to reasonably accommodate people with disabilities, or those with a known drug abuse problem, and how does the simulation demonstrate these?…
The restaurant I picked was very accessible for wheelchairs. Unfortunately, the soap dispensers were to high up. When thinking about being in a wheelchair I could only imagine the amount of frustration they must go through especially if a restaurant or any place isn’t too accessible. Everyday is a struggle for them and after doing this assignment I wish I could do something so that all places are more handicap friendly. Doing this assignment was stressful knowing there are a lot of requirements but my heart goes out to all persons in a wheelchair because I know how frustrating it can…
Rationale: This action requires body transport as the person is moving through the mall. It also requires object manipulation as the person has to move the assisted walking device. The environment is moving because there are other people walking around. The environment can also change from trial to trial because different numbers of people may be there each day or different booths might be set up in the mall.…
On arrival to the shopping centre a friend of her gets the chair out of the boot and she goes on her way shopping only to be met with all kinds of problems like shop doors not wide enough for the wheelchair or steps up to the shop.…
Wheelchairs in the corridors are a tripping hazard, to avoid this hazard the possible thing we can do is that put the wheelchairs in a corner. People who are affected by this hazard are the staff, visitors, and the residents. To avoid this hazard I would have to make sure that the wheelchairs are put away in the store room and only take them out when needed, also for resident’s safety I would ask the maintenance person to check the wheelchair if it is secure for the residents to sit in. The potential harm and abuse for this hazard is that the person who gets hurt can fracture their knee. The wheelchairs should not be hazard for anyone who walks in the nursing home.…
Nancy Mairs is a writer afflicted with multiple sclerosis. In her essay, "Disability", she explains how the media fails to accurately portray individuals living with a debilitating disease. This causes people with a handicap to feel inadequate, isolated, and lonely. Consequently, the media's lack of depiction hinders the able-bodied person's ability to understand, interact, and accept disability as normal. Mairs wants disability to be portrayed in everyday life that way others can be aware of those who have handicaps and realize that they are just like everyone else. Mairs succeeds to get her point across by drawing in the reader with her strong diction as well as using personal experiences and humor in support of her statements.…
Hi, I am Molly Musgrave, a sixteen year old high school student writing to inform you with the problems of the disability laws. The American with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 needs to be updated because they do not state enough benefits with health care. The laws should include free health care for families that have a member with disabilities. These moderate views on this law could change many lives.…
Some people that have disabilities may have problems accessing health care. For example, the entrances to some GP surgeries don’t have very good access for individuals that use wheelchairs. If a wheelchair user has to open two to three doors before entering the waiting area this will act as a barrier. The wheelchair user does not want to depend on others to do things for them; this makes them feel incapable of doing things for themselves.…
The picture illustrated the path for residents to the garbage cans and parking. So, the image is related to the housing environment because this location is where residents who live in this building, such as my family, have access to garbage cans to throw away their trash and to also park their cars.…

Today, more than 60 million people in the United States, approximately one in five, have some type of disability (The Equal Rights Center. n.d.). Major life activities include walking, talking, hearing, seeing, breathing, learning, performing manual tasks, and caring for oneself (U.S Department of Housing and…
The disabilities in America is a major issue that took an interest to me as I have lived with a loved one who has a disability and life isn’t so easy for her. I questioned many points in these articles talking about disabilities like; what cities provided the best services for disabled people? Who struggled with disabled the most? Will any services be provided for the family and not just the disabled person?…
Steve Williams has behavioral difficulties, and poor social interaction skills. Mrs. Andrews states, “Steve works ineffectively in cooperative group learning situations. Steve has difficulty interacting with his peers and has refused to work with his classmates the last few weeks” (Ally Bacon 2007). Steve’s classmates say, “[Steve] “goofs off and doesn’t do any of the work” (Ally Bacon 2007). Another note Mrs. Andrews says is Steve tattles on his peers and he tends to spend his recess time either in the classroom or the nurse’s office.…
