Rough Draft of Essay 1
In this paper I’m going to discuss the process of the digestive system, and how it works. There are four main processes that I’m going to tell you about and how they function. They are the mouth, stomach, small intestine, and large intestine.
First is the mouth. It is surrounded by the cheeks, palate, and the tongue. It also contains the teeth, also along with the saliva glands. With all of these you get the mouth which is the start of the digestive system. In the mouth you use the teeth and saliva glands to moisten the food that you ingest, or take in. The cheeks, palate, which is the roof of the mouth, and the tongue, also help with this process by holding in the food and moving it around in the mouth. With all that put together you begin with the mouth. Which is the first step to the digestive process and then it moves on into the stomach.
Second is the stomach. That is at the bottom of the pharynx and esophagus which leads to the stomach. The stomach is a pouch like enlargement of the alimentary canal. Also it holds food for mixing. There are several functions in the stomach which helps with digestion. The stomach contains four parts they are the cardiac, fundic, and pyloric regions and the body. Then the pyloric sphincter opens to allow chyme to enter, which food is mixed with gastric juice. When the food passes through the pyloric it stimulates the hormone called gastrin, which in turn produces intestinal mucosa and gastric juice. There isn’t much absorption goes on in the stomach, and what is left passes on down.
Third is the small intestine. The small intestine is at the bottom of the stomach. It also occupies most of the abdominal cavity. There are also three segments in the small intestine which are duodenum, jejunum, and the ileum. These three segments are important to the small intestine because they are in the order of the digestion breakdown. The duodenum is a... [continues]
