RESULTS HIGHLIGHTS
History of KariaNet
Effectively launched in January 2005, KariaNet is a multi-stakeholder partnership between the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and IFAD-funded projects in the Middle East and NorthAfrica (MENA) region. KariaNet held its start-up workshop in Cairo, in February 2005. Five countries, i.e. Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Sudan and Tunisia, were designated as constituent members and two projects per country were selected to be the founding core of the network. The network will gradually expand to incorporate all IFADfunded projects in all countries in the region.
b - Building Capacity at Project Level
KariaNet strengthens the capacity of its member projects for sharing and communicating useful knowledge and exchanging relevant information and experiences among themselves and with the other partners and stakeholders. It organizes regular training courses and thematic workshops, wherein projects' staff acquire new knowledge. Consequently, member projects are able to access useful information and provide appropriate problem-solving approaches to their beneficiaries, according to their needs.

c - Strengthening Connectivity
KariaNet is a regional network for knowledge sharing and experience exchange in the MENA region. It aims at fostering networking among IFAD-funded rural and agricultural development projects in the region, through an intensive use of information and communications technologies (ICTs). It also supports member projects in developing their capacities for an efficient knowledge management function. Its ultimate goal is to improve member project operations and outcomes, for the benefit of rural poor and communities.
