Deviant Behavior
An example of deviant behavior in the two movies Crazy-In-Alabama and Seven is murder. Society views this as a deviant act because it is taking a life and it is illegal. A deviant behavior is an action or behavior that violates social norms. Murder definitely violates social norms. Whether the person killed deserved to be killed or not doesn’t matter in the eyes of many people. Most of the time, the person killed is innocent and did nothing wrong. When you commit murder, you take all authority into your own hands and leave out the government, like in Crazy-In-Alabama. Lucille’s husband was mean to her, but she did not go to the authorities, she took it into her own hands. Although murder is not an accepted behavior, it is more common in certain countries. In the ancient days, human sacrifices were made in certain countries. If this happened today, they would probably get in a lot of trouble. In poor countries located in the Middle East, murders happen everyday, but I still don’t believe that it is seen as a non-deviant act. I don’t think someone taking away someone else’s life will ever be viewed as non-deviant because it is not a normal behavior. Our society uses social control by making laws and punishments. If someone murders someone, they usually go to jail. Our justice system controls punishments and makes laws that help protect us. The government also tries to regulate the selling of guns and weapons. People still can get them pretty easily though. No, I don’t think murder being a deviant behavior will ever change in our society because taking someone else’s life is not acceptable. People will always want to control other people and have more power, so murders will always happen. There are always people who go crazy or can’t control their anger and end up killing someone.
