Developing Good Business Sense
When trying to develop a good sense of business it is important to understand how different companies run and conduct business with the rest of the world. In this paper I will talk about three companies, the differences in their operations, the nature of their operating systems, and how their employees manage the job at each business. I will also discuss how the cost of the operating system measures up and what kind of profits can be expected from each.
The three businesses I would like to talk about are Mc Donald’s, Dairy Queen, and The Donut Shop. The employees conduct very similar tasks. All three businesses are in the food service business. The employees prepare the food, serve the food to customers, and work cash registers to collect the money for the services. The employees are there to conduct the same type of business. Being familiar with all the business operations is a very important task to maintain. Accuracy is very important to maintain a smooth running business, so employees should always make sure to get the orders right the first time and be courteous to all the customers.  
Mc Donald’s and Dairy Queen are franchise fast food restaurants. They have a lower start up cost due to the owner buying into the main business and the profits from the stores are shared within the food chain corporation. They mainly sell hamburgers and fries and different types of breakfast foods. These two restaurants are in a fast food setting, so service is quick and mostly efficient. The Donut Shop is a small restaurant that is family owned. It maintains all costs that the business conducts. The manager’s main goals are to make sure employees are putting the customer first and keeping them coming back for future sales. Mc Donald’s establishes and maintains strict operating standards for the entire chain of businesses. The Donut Shop is a little more personal when it conducts business with its customers.
