Determining Your Perfect Position Paper
Leadership, wither it is something a person is born with or something a person learns is invaluable for an organization to succeed. “Leaders establish direction by developing a vision of the future; then they align people by communicating this vision and inspiring them to overcome hurdles” (Robbins & Judge, 2007). Leadership is so complex that the various styles are summarized into theories; which will be compared and contrasted. From the theories is generated a leadership style; my personal leadership style is more relaxed than most and that will be described with strengths and weaknesses. Leadership Theories
Leaders take various approaches to leading and the various approach styles can be called leadership theories. The theories involve style preferences that include group decisions or brainstorming, strict chain of commands, allowing the situation to determine the leadership style, leaders are born from other leaders or learning from other leaders. The various styles have some similarities and some differences. The Great Man Theory and the Trait Theory are closely related. They are both believed that leaders are born with their abilities or that some people have a inherited predisposition to leadership. Some of the born with traits include assertiveness, decisiveness, energetic, tactful and persuasive. The difference between these two theories is that in the Great Man Theory a leader is born from a great man, but in the trait theory the leader is just born with leadership qualities.
Transformational Theory and Participative Theory involve the leader and the subordinate. These theories are alike in that the success of the leader depends a great deal on the follower. Transformational Theory believes that because the leader is passionate and energetic, people will follow. The participative Theory suggests that people are more committed to a task when they are involved in the decision making. These...
