By the end of the Second World War, the government of India was confronted by a big problem of disposing the colossal war waste. Ultimately, a comate war constituted to inquire into the possibilities .The comate report of 1948 proposed the establishment of Govt.owned machine tool industry. This was expected to fulfill two aspects. The first was being utilization of the Rs 4000 million worth of metallic waste. The second was the incorporation of a state owned infrastructure manufacturing facility. The result was the birth of the HINDUSTAN MACHINE TOOL LIMITED, diversified in due course of time to the present structure of the multi core, multi-location, multi-unit, multi-product, industrial giant HMT Ltd.

The HMT Ltd was started as a single factory to produce Tool Room lathe at Bangalore in collaboration around 400 machines per year. Since different collaboration R&D and tremendous marketing effort brought HMT, to present status.

The growth of HMT Ltd was characterized by the forward and back ward integration of technology and product diversification. Thus the company that started with manufacturing and selling lathe expanded its machine tools product range to evolve as the ultimate solution in metal cutting. The product diversification efforts look the company to the business of watches in 1962,Tractors in 1971,Die casting in plastic machines in 1971,printing machinery in 1972,press in 1972,press in 1972,tamps and tamps making machinery in 1976 food processing machinery in 1980.CNC system in 1986,Ball screws in 1986 and reconditioning in 1990



The STALLION 200 turning center is designed to perform a variety to matching operations such as straight and taper turning, drilling, boring and countering with linear and circular inter-potation. Internal and external threading (parallel or taper) etc. the machine is suitable for chuck and bar types of work pieces. An optional talestock can be made use of for shaft type of work or for supporting components with heavy external tuning and subsequent internal maching, with the talestock can be moved automatically away through programmed The basic structure of the machine is ac computer optimized bed for maximum rigidity and stability .The bed houses the chip tray or conveyor, coolant tank and main motor in addition to accommodating headstock, talestock and saddle The bed guide ways for saddle and the saddle guide ways for cross slide moments are inductions hardened and ground.Anti frication liners (Turcite) are fixed to the saddle guide ways mating with the bed,as well as the cross slide guide ways mating with the saddle. The headstock is a simple sturdy structure accommodating the CATRIDGE congaing the spindle, the bearing system. At the rare end of spindle, the poly v pulley for the main drive and the freed back pulley for encoder are directly mounted. The main spindle is driven by the variable speed AC motor through the poly v belt .The speed range of spindle is from 1500 to 6000 rpm

The feed drives for the saddle (Z AXIS) and the feed drive for the cross slide (X AXIS) are by AC Servomotors. The ball screw nut and bearing are preloaded to eliminate backlash and to improve stiffness. The standard rapid transverse rates for both Z and X axes are 20/15-m/min respectively. The standard turret has 8- tooling stations with wedge lock system .An 8 STATIONS VD 13425,40mm diameter shank system offered optionally .The turret clamping and actuation in both versions are through hydraulic power. Tail stock with MT-3 taper and live center is provided to increase the capability of the machine without affecting any of the standard features. The tail stock unit is adjustable on the bed for different work piece lengths and can be moved in program The lubrication or the spindle bearing is by grease and is for life.
