My Most Personal Place White blank walls, white cold tile floor, tucked in the basement away from my seven other roommates was my new bedroom. The only natural light in the room coming from the window the size of a picture frame. Moving into a new and unfamiliar place can be unsettling and exciting. I went to work moving my things in and making this 10 by 10 white empty box my new room. After two short days I completed my decorating and was thrilled with the outcome. The ceiling of my bedroom was outlined with white christmas lights twinkling in unison. In the middle of the ceiling hung a round yellow paper lantern that came from my sisters wedding; everytime I looked up I had good memories and it made me feel love and warmth. I placed glow-in-the-dark stars sparatically covering my ceiling so I felt I was falling asleep gazing at the stars in the sky. The room had a ledge about a foot higher than my queen size bed. I lined the ledge with vanilla-lavender scented candles that filled the room with an amazing aroma that calmed me as if it rocked me to sleep before bed. My bedding was gray and lavender colored with a pattern that looked as if it was paint brush strokes. I was not allowed to paint the walls so I covered them with colorful posters of bands and portraits I enjoyed. Between the posters were photos of my friends and family; photos that made me smile as I reminisced the funny memories I had with my loved ones. The tile felt like ice against bare feet. I purchased a gray shag rug that looked as if it came from the 1970s but felt soft and warm as it cushioned your feet from the cold, hard floor beneath it. My closet was immediately to the left after you entered my room and was hidden by a light purple curtian. There was a small, black mini fridge in the corner of the room beside the television. The door had two locks on it thanks to my dad, but it made me feel safe.

In addition to it, on a table against a wall placed cupcakes and candies which make the ground floor smells warm and inviting and blessedly familiar. There is a pool table on one side of the lounge and a table tennis table on the other side beside couches. In the middle are three elevators and from across is a wall of mailboxes. It would take approximately a minute to get to the floor that I live in, the 20th floor. Step out of the elevator after the sound “ding”, the carpeted floor gives it a wonderfully homely character. My room is a double split room, it is allocated evenly on both sides and is furnitured with essentials such as closet, table and mattress on the base. As I jump on the bed, the bed-springs does not creak and the mattress is very soft to lay on. When open up the window, the sound of the city mixed with the sound of wind can be heard clearly along with the sunset and city view outside my window is quite a sight to behold. The throw pillow in bright global textiles and the traditional patterned bedding that I brought all the way from my own country, China, lightened this little room. All these small parts all take parts to build up a home feeling which is one of the main reasons why Lawrinson Hall is my favorite building on campus.…

The kitchen in my home represents memories of family meals, warmth, and togetherness. I remember coming home after school and smelling the mild aroma of Indian spices that my mother was cooking with and the tantalizing curry that she would make. The kitchen was a small, dimly lit room with bamboo flooring and wallpaper that did not match it at all. The pictures which hung on the ugly wallpaper were of my siblings and me, reminding me of my childhood. While the kitchen certainly contributed to the warmth and security of my house, my bedroom was where I felt the most secure.…

Our kitchen was small, with one light on the ceiling. My mom complained a lot over the years about that one light in our kitchen. I’m not sure why, but it was never replaced to add more lighting options. Still to this day, that one light attached to the ceiling exists. The floor was covered by ceramic tile in an off white color and the walls were painted in a chocolate milk type of color. Remember, this is the 1970’s/1980’s when home décor was terrible. A large fork and spoon hung on one of our chocolate milk colored walls, as it did in many homes back then. It took a lot of time and effort to beg and plead my mom to switch out that spoon and fork for some more modern type of décor. Eventually she added some pictures that fit very well into the kitchen. Our kitchen held most of the memories of togetherness, but my room was my sanctuary. My room was upstairs along with 2 other rooms. I had the upstairs to myself since the other rooms were used as storage or for an occasional visitor.…

The soft white carpet that stretches throughout the house stops, at the doorway of the room. The chocolate brown and polished, wooden floor takes the place of the carpet. The room is surrounded by earth tone colored walls giving it a feel of nature. On top of the walls are uniquely designed molding frames that present a stylish statement. Abundant natural light shines through wooden blinds of the window which is located on the left side of the room. The full sized bed is against the wall and has floral sheets, fluffy pillows, and pattern designs that complement the theme of the room. The desk next to the bed is cluttered with scraps of paper, workbooks, and erasers crumbs. Pencils, pens, and markers are neatly placed in a purple pencil box at the left corner of the desk. Two feet away from the desk stands a tall built in closet that is six feet away from the foot of the bed. Across the closet is the wall that has an entire section filled nearly dozens of collages of captured memories.…

Entering through the back door is the living room. The sudden aroma of my house smells of cinnamon and is always comforting. My living room consists of my dad’s favorite leather chair, a substantial love seat, a delightful cream colored couch, and a 64 inch flat screen TV. This is where my family and I like to take a load off after a long day. If I had to describe my houses theme it would be fall mainly because of its tasteful decorations and calming color scheme. All of the creams, browns, and reds make it that way. On the wall in my living room hang October, November, and January paintings. These months stand for me, my dad, and my older sister’s birthdays. A large arch way opens up to the wine colored kitchen area, which is my favorite place in my house. The grayish granite marble…

Soon forgot I the smells of the house, when I saw three gigantic chandeliers and the vast amount of doors all facing into the main hall, all made of willow wood, of which I despised. Carefully walked I towards the many doors attempting not to make any noises so that no-one heard me hear me. I attempted to turn the door knob slowly but surely, 'click click', it didn't budge, 'click click', the retched thing was locked. As I tried the last door on the far right of the main hall. It opened. As I opened the door my mouth dropped in amaze, the wallpapers were a brilliant crimson red mixed with a spectacular saffron yellow and two more beautiful chandeliers dangling from the roof like some glory-cloud above the room's centre. The floor was a brilliant white marble polished so perfectly that I could have mistaken it for a mirror. This room was so well kept it could have been brand new although the rest of the mansion looked crippled and destroyed.…

Furthermore, the reason why I loved my house so much is because I had my own room. As a child I had to share rooms with my sister in a 8 broom house filled with my family until my mother decided to move out. Then I got my own room which was the best thing that’s ever happened to me. My room had everything I needed! I did not leave my room unless it was time to get out of the house or time to eat. I over loved my room my computer was in there , my television, I had my own little refrigerator, to go along with that my mom surprised me one day, I came home and my walls were painted pink with pictures of me all over, my furniture was to die for, my air conditioner was never off, and the best thing of all is I had a lock on my door. My friends always wanted to come over its like my room was the chill spot. It was very welcoming, but I did not let everybody in my room simply because my mother always told me not to.…

    My dream room

I always imagined my room to be a warm genial place, but also seem sort of mysterious. Inviting, yet also foreboding. After a long day of school, I could just go walk into my glowing yellow, and black blue room, and be alone for a while, a place where I could feel like I just melted away with the surroundings. When I walked in, I would be transported to a different place, a place where I could feel at ease. I could play and act childish if I wanted, no one could see me. I could run around with my blanket, and pretend I was a super hero, or I could go jump on my bed until I fell down exhausted, panting and sweaty. Then do it all over again. I could sit at my oak wood work desk, and do my homework quietly, or go play with my Legos. After I finished, I could go lie down on my bright green bed, grab a snack out of one of the many secret cubby holes, and simply, sleep.…
