Compare the incidences of diabetes within each region of the U.S. for the past year and identify which state has the highest burden of this disease.
According to the CDC the states with the highest incidences of diabetes are in the south region of the Unites States (Center for Disease Control, 2008).   In fact, it has been estimated that 10.5 % per 1000 people has been reported to have diabetes (Center for Disease Control, 2008). The states that falls within this region is Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and West Virginia (Center for Disease Control, 2008). Following the southern region, there is the northwest region which has 8.6% per 1000 cases (Center for Disease Control, 2008). This region consists of the states such as Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Vermont (Center for Disease Control, 2008). Following closely behind the northwest region is the west region with 8.5% of reported cases of incidences (Center for Disease Control, 2008). In addition, this region includes the states of Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, and Wyoming (Center for Disease Control, 2008). Researchers also found that the south region was leading in the new cases of diabetes being reported (Center for Disease Control, 2008).   Although the southern region may be leading in the new cases being reported, California which belongs to the western region is the leading state of reporting diabetes cases in with 208 cases followed by Texas (south region state) with 156 cases and Florida (south region state) with 139 cases (Center for Disease Control, 2008) . Furthermore, to be state specific, West Virginia has been found to be the state with the highest incidence of diabetes.
