Describe what your role, responsibilities and boundaries would be as a teacher in terms of the teacher/training cycle. Introduction
My initial role of a teacher would be to would make sure I had all the resources needed. Making sure the class was safety checked, a comfortable temperature, the lighting sufficient, enough tables, chairs, laptops charged etc. Everything must be suitable for use and following procedure. It is important that times are adhered to. Puntuality is imperative.
Course of action
I would identify the needs of all the students. Assessing at what needs to be actioned. A course should be tailor-made to the attendees. A good way of getting students to have an insight into one another is an ‘ice breaker’ session right at the beginning which although most find uncomfortable, it is a good way of getting to know one another and reasoning behind their background; motives; behaviour and skill sets.Through communication I would establish what the student envisages and a preference to which the course would follow. Sometimes through discussion, a happy medium can me brought into place suiting both parties, i.e. changing the structure or times of a lesson to suit all the individuals. Sometimes how I want to structure a course may not be possible as I am governed by the resource, the environment, the time given and the students abilities and willingness to learn. A lot of students question why they are there, in a what is in it for me? This type of attitude is common place, which is relevant and valid. It is their valuable time as well as your own being used and every minute counts. I would of planned and designed my lessons prior. working out a structure to which my lessons would follow, using different methods to maintain interest. Splitting classes into groups encouraging teamwork in problem solving, using cards, presentations, and practical work as well as written for the more reflector and theorist.
