Derrick Rose
By: David Francis

Derrick Rose is a six foot three point guard out of the University of Memphis and plays for the Chicago Bulls in the National Basketball Association. Drafted in 2008 with the first overall pick after only one year in college, Rose quickly burst onto the scene as a star player in the NBA averaging twenty one points and seven assists thus earning him rookie of the year in 2008.

After winning rookie of the year Rose had all the confidence to do more in his professional career such as being a three time all star, all NBA first team three times and being the youngest MVP in NBA history. Also, outside of the NBA he won the FIBA gold medal with team USA in 2010.

In his MVP season, the Chicago bulls were the top ranked team in the NBA and were predicted to win the championship. But, in the first round, first game against the Philadelphia 76ers Rose went down with a knee injury which afterward was diagnosed as a torn ACL muscle which sat him down for a year, after he was able to run, he immediately got back to training and revamping his skills thus taking another five months off, with this season approaching its beginning on October 31st, the much anticipated return of Derrick Rose will finally be upon us. And to add more excitement they will be facing the two time reigning champions the Miami Heat. Many are doubting that Rose will be a returning force because of past star players careers being ruined by injuries such as Tracy McGrady and Grant Hill.

I chose this topic because Derrick Rose is my favorite basketball player and Chicago Bulls my favorite team, I cannot wait for him to return and get back to the same way he was when he left thus dethroning the Heat and finally bring a title back to the Bulls since the days of Michael Jordan.

My brother Cam “thinks from the year of 2010-2011 that Derrick Rose is better because of the way he has pushed his team to 60 wins or more. Last season the Chicago Bulls was the number one seed in the NBA and following behind the Oklahoma Thunder in the second seed, because of Derrick Rose they were the number one seed in the Eastern Conference for two years and because of Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and James Harden the Thunder was name the Western Conference number one seed.” This here shows you that Derrick Rose got all the credit while Russell Westbrook only get about twenty-five percent credit. “Derrick Rose is more clutch, because the ball is always in his hand when it comes down to winning a game but Westbrook on the other hand is the second option when it comes down to winning a game” Cam said, I told him that’s only because he have the scoring champ Kevin Durant which coach will always have the ball in Kevin Durant hands to make a play. “Derrick Rose has the ability to take over the game, by him being able to assist the ball he had to create more because of the lack of talent to take over games,” but every team has that guy who takes over the game and Derrick Rose is that guy for the Bulls but for Thunder Kevin Durant is the guy who takes over games and Westbrook steps up when he have to.…

Dywane Wade’s nicknames are “Flash” and “D-Wade”. Wade stands at 6ft 4in and weighs 216lbs. He is a shooting guard who is capable of playing the point, and often does late in games. He is one of the quickest and hardest to guard players in the NBA. He has mastered the “Freeze Fake”, which is when a player pump fakes, waits for the player to commit and then jump up into the player to draw the foul. Wade has also established himself as one of the best clutch players in the NBA. One of his greatest strengths is getting to the rim and finishing, sometimes after mid-air collisions. One of his greatest weaknesses is his three-point range. Due to his style of play he has been injured a lot and in the past two years he has had surgery on his knee and his shoulder.…

Another one was from horse races that he won money from. On July 19th Rose was sentenced to five years of security prison camp at the US penitentiary in Illinois and was fine the amount of 50,000 dollars. On January 7, 1991 after paying almost half of the amount which was $366,041 in back taxes and interest and was finally released from the prison. He also had to do a mandatory 1000 hours of community service. In 1991 rose had a chance at being in the MLB’s hall of fame but for the bad actions that he made in the years past years the committee did not want anyone that was on the ineligible list to be able to be one of the inductees in the hall of fame. Rose is the only member to this day being on the major league baseball’s ineligible list. After all of this Rose has made some appearances on many different things such as being a Fox sports commentator also appearing on shows such as WWE’s Raw as a wrestling commentator. Ever since his mistake of gambling he has cost himself a lot of damage because he could have been in the hall of fame and maybe could still to this day be involved in the MLB such as being the Reds manager or maybe even being another teams manager but the price of this is that he will never have anything to do with the MLB because of something stupid that he did in the…

I was in high school when Pete Rose broke Ty Cobb's all time hits record. I grew up in Ohio when I was young and was always a Cincinnati Reds fan, and Rose was one of the players I admired. It seemed as though he hustled more than most of the other players and was always trying to do whatever it took in order to win. He was my first recollection of how free agency could ruin your favorite team when he departed for the Philadelphia Phillies in 1979, and led them to the World Series in 1980. In 1989, The Dowd Report (which harshly criticized Rose for gambling) was a shock. That a player who was so intent on winning and would do whatever it took to help his team to win, would break the major sin of baseball in gambling on baseball was an idea I could not have ever thought possible.…

He was born and raised in Cincinnati by Harry “Pete” and LaVerne Rose. Pete Rose was a member of the Order of DeMolay growing up and was strongly encouraged to participate in sports by his parents. The story goes that Harry Rose was sent to the store to buy his daughter a pair of shoes and he came back with boxing gloves for Pete. From an early age Pete’s life revolved around sports, or just competing in general. Pete was very small in stature in his early years, making him compete with a chip on his shoulder against the bigger and stronger kids. Rose was a two sport standout at Western Hills High School playing both baseball and football, baseball being his best sport. Rose was not a high school baseball top prospect. However, his uncle Buddy Bloebaum was a scout for the hometown Cincinnati Reds and convinced the Reds to take a chance on his nephew. After Rose’s high school graduation he signed his first professional contract with his hometown Cincinnati Reds in…

Kobe Bryant is arguably one of the league’s best all around players of all time. He can drive, shoot, and his finish is one of a kind. His defense is shut down and plays with fouls as a defensive mechanism. Not only is he top class on the floor, but on the free throw line as well. Also being one of the league’s most consistent free throw shooters since entering the NBA. Kobe plays the game as if he invented it; he is one of the world’s most respected and popular players. Kobe has five NBA championships and is a twelve time NBA all star. Kobe Bryant age thirty-two is one of the most decorated players in the history of the NBA, and is a future hall -of -famer. Kobe also has had an unheard of eighty-one points in a single game. Kobe’s down side is that he is not consistently aggressive or hard going to the boards (getting rebounds or dunking). With all that said I feel like Kobe Bryant will ever be remembered as one of the elite players to ever play in the NBA.…

In today’s generation of basketball superstars, there is one distinguished player, Kobe Bryant that holds a reflection to another known superstar, Michael Jordan in his ability to play the game, offensively and defensively; however, they differ in their overall performances. Although sports fans attempt to compare the two players, many will agree that Michael Jordan carries the best offensive and defensive numbers, while Kobe Bryant holds the title of the youngest all-star to ever enter the National Basketball Association.
