Derrick Rose
Nothing is Impossible
I believe almost everybody has someone in their life that has influenced them in some shape or form. This person could range from being a family member to a basketball player you admire. They make you who you are or how you do something. I am a huge Derrick Rose fan. I’m the type of fan that would actually stay out in the blistering cold to actually finally meet him and that’s what I did. My respect for Derrick Rose is extremely high, especially knowing the neighborhood he came from. He chose to follow a good life and focus on what he loves, which is basketball. His hard worked paid off and he is an amazing player. His dedication showed me that it does not matter where you are from or who you are, as long as you work hard anything is possible. My morning started off like a typical day, but that changed when I checked my phone; I received a text from one of my friends. He said, “Tonight could be the night.” I was curious and wanted to find out what he was talking about, but unfortunately that was the last I heard of him for the rest of the day. My day slowly passed by and I could not stop myself from thinking about what my friend had mentioned. I had to get my mind of it, so I did what I loved to do; I played basketball. Playing basketball always seems to get my mind of things and frankly, I am pretty good at it. When I got done playing, it was still pretty early and I did not want to go home. Completely forgetting about what my friend had texted me earlier, I went to his house around 12:30am. Before I could reach his house, he texted me saying, “Let’s go meet Derrick Rose.” My mouth dropped wide open in disbelief. It was one of those moments where you think it is too good to be true. I was very skeptical, but that was the least of my worries; I had to explain to my parents about the situation. I had a gut feeling that if I asked they would say no. That left me with only one choice; I had to lie to my parents. When I reached his house, I

Kevin Durant had quite the year—he led the NBA in scoring, made an NBA Finals appearance, won Olympic gold, etc. All of which, you’d think, would have some people saying it’s finally KD’s time to step up and win a couple chips, but from the sounds of it, people are still hitting the forward with the “You’re the future” speech…and Durant isn’t having that. Durant also wanted to let it be known that while he won’t turn 24 until late September, the Oklahoma City all-star forward considers himself too much of an essential element of the NBA’s present to be clumped into discussions about its future. ’I’ve heard a few times, in three or four years, this league is going to be yours. . . . I don’t like that. Because I think I’m established now.…

Enter Peter Edward “Pete” Rose Sr. Pete Rose grew up in a middle class family, struggled as a student, and then eventually excelled as a baseball player/manager. Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant are two of the greatest basketball players to ever live. The way they play the game is memorizing. These two athletes are very extraordinary, though only one can be called the greatest of all time. The debate still and will always continue on who is the best. On one hand, there is the 6 time NBA champion in Michael Jordan; in the other there is the phenom who scored eighty- one points in one game, Kobe Bryant. In my opinion, Michael Jordan is and will always be the greatest basketball player to ever play the game. When I think of the word, "legend", only one name comes to my mind and that name is Michael Jordan. Even the president of the United States thinks MJ is the better choice. "Oh, Michael," the lifelong basketball fan told The Associated Press "I mean Kobe's terrific. Don't get me wrong," Obama said of the four-time NBA champion. "But I haven't seen anybody match up with Jordan yet". Michael Jordan tops Kobe Bryant in many ways, such as: offense, defense, and overall career achievements.…

When I walked into the store I headed right to the sports section and picked up NBA 2K16, I had been waiting to get this game for weeks, I was hype! Once we concluded our terrible shopping trip I was finally home, and the first thing I did was run up to my room and put 2K into my Xbox One. Once I opened the case however, I felt a strong force pull me down, like a seatbelt in a car. When I opened my eyes I was standing face to face with NBA superstar Kevin Durant, my favorite NBA player, he dominated the NBA with his ability to score with amazing ease. “Don’t just stand there man, shoot it!” Kevin exclaimed to me as he passed me the ball. I threw up an easy corner jump shot and it went in with a nice sound as the ball glazed through the net. “Ok I see you” Kevin said to me as I got my rebound and passed him the rock. He went back towards the half court line with the ball and started sprinting towards the rim, I opened my mouth in awe and I watched him soar into the air and 360 dunk! “Not bad, didn’t mean to dunk it so hard though” KD said as my eyes were as big as golf balls in straight amazement. We ended up playing a game of 21, which he obviously kicked my butt in, but I had a great…

We waited in the gym for about 4 hours, then I got hungry. I walked through the dark hallway to use the vending machine. After I got my honey bun, I walked around to the field house to see if they posted the team. They did, 14 id numbers on one sheet of paper. I looked up and down the list multiple times looking for my id number and unfortunately it wasn’t on there. My heart was broken and I was so confused. I walked home teary-eyed and when I arrived home I cried my eyes out. After that I didn’t play basketball for a whole week, which I had never done. After that week I got back in the gym, and kept playing every day as usual. I went to all of their games because I loved the sport and I wanted to support my friends. After the season ended everything went back to normal, we kept going to the YMCA every day. Now school has ended and summer league starts. Coach put me on Jr. Varsity just too test my skills and the first game, it was the best game of my life. I dunked the ball on a fast break and I couldn’t miss. I was the star player and that showed coach I was better so he put me on varsity. All in all I am just saying never give up and work as hard as you can, it will pay…

Derrick Rose is my favorite player in the NBA. He is a point guard for the Chicago Bulls. I first started liking Derrick as a player when he first arrived to play for the University of Memphis. That was the very first time Memphis has ever made it to the “Final Four” in college basketball. After his time with Memphis Derrick was drafted by his hometown Chicago and immediately made an impact. His very first year Derrick became the youngest MVP in NBA history. As of now Derrick still plays for the Chicago Bulls, and hopefully he will take us to an NBA…

On January 26th, I made a huge error in my basketball game against West Central. To anybody else, that game might have seemed unimportant- insignificant really. They were not a conference rival or a sectional team. To me however, this game was very significant because I used to attend that school. At that game, I played all of my friends from kindergarten to fifth grade. I hoped that I didn’t make a fool of myself. I hoped to do amazing so that all of my old friends would see what a great basketball player I had become. I hoped that I would make a play so amazing that everyone would remember it. While I would certainly not forget the play I made, it was not the spectacular one I had dreamed. My gym teacher- Mr. Prairie asked the class, “Who’s ready for the basketball game tonight against West Central,” and I wondered if I was. Because of my insistent worrying I could not manage to make a play through all of gym class (we were playing basketball)…

Webster’s Dictionary defines success as the favorable or prosperous termination of attempts or endeavors, or, successful performance or achievement. On February 4th 2012 Jeremy Lin made his NBA debut against the New Jersey Nets. Twelve minutes into the game, the non-starter Guard entered the game to make his debut as a New York Knick. To everyone’s surprise Lin came off the bench cold to put up big numbers against the Nets that would both change the pace of the game and give birth a new sensation in the NBA. In his debut game, Lin put up twenty-five points, seven assists, and two steals which was a team high in all three categories (NBA.com). Lin’s initial success was foreshadowing to what was soon to come. According to Webster’s Dictionary’s definition, Lin’s twenty-five point achievement in his first performance as a Knick can be deemed successful. Over the next three games of his career, Lin’s success continued. In his first four NBA starts he had achieved a 27.3-point per game average proving him to be an elite NBA player (NBA.com).
