Dennis Rodman

The person I decide to do my psychology study on is Dennis Roman, I decided to pick him to do my study would is because he is well known to have a lot of psychological problems. Some of his psychological problems are the reason that made him an even bigger star than he was just off his accomplishments. Some people could even argue the fact by some of his bizarre events he was able to generate a bigger salary for NBA contract as well too. By fully understanding Dennis Rodman we, will know who he is, where he comes from, then ask what makes him do the things he does, and why he does it?

Dennis Rodman was originally born on May 13, 1961 in Trenton, New Jersey but grew up in Dallas, Texas around the Oak Cliff neighborhood time was considered to be one of worst neighborhood in the Dallas area. Dennis grew up being the only male in his family with his mother and two sisters after his father left to enlist in the Air Force and then became a Vietnam War Veteran. While Dennis was growing up he wasn’t a standout basketball player as he was when he was in the NBA, in fact his two sisters were the standout basketball players. This made him a laughing stock to his peers since he was the one tagging along with them to all their basketball games. When Dennis was a freshman in high school he was considered on of the shorter ones in his class, standing at only 5 foot 6 inches, and only grew 5 inches during his four years in high school to his senior year when he only was 5’11. He was unable to make the basketball team during the time in high school; in fact he couldn’t even make a layup playing basketball during tryouts. After finishing high school he started working a full time overnight job as a janitor at the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. Getting into trouble for the first time was on a dare; he stuck his broom handle through a gift shop gate and stole 15 watches. He was arrested, jailed for a night, and released after he told the cops where the watches were. No charges were ever filed in the incident, but it added to the growing strain between Rodman and his mother. Upon this incident causing him to lose his job, his mother gave his an ultimatum; go to college, join the armed service, or get another job. Dennis being so stubborn he didn’t listen to his mother so she packed his bags and locked him out the house.

At Cook County Junior College in a single year Dennis hit a phenomenal growth spurt by growing almost 1 foot in a single year, he reach the height of 6 foot 8 inches. The head coach of Cook County Junior College, amazed by his height after seeing him as he walked through the hallways, recruited him to join this basketball team, which was the turning point in his life. In a single semester he averaged 17.6 points and 13.3 rebounds, before flunking out due to poor academic performance. He was recruited and transfer on a full scholarship to play basketball at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, a NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) school. Feeling a little unsecure about his skill set at the next level where his height is consider normal for the power forward position he start focusing in other aspect of the game that will get him to the next level and into the NBA. Dennis started focusing on becoming a great rebounder and learning how to play trap defense, which he excel at, and was a three-time NAIA All-American and led the NAIA in rebounding in both the 1984–1985 and 1985–1986 seasons. At the Portsmouth Invitational, a pre-draft camp for NBA hopefuls, he won Most Valuable Player honors and caught the attention of the Detroit Pistons, in the 1986 NBA Draft he was drafted by the Detroit Pistons as the 3rd pick in the second round (27th overall).

During the time playing for the Detroit Pistons in the NBA is where he starts becoming known for the bad boy attitude. In fact the whole team had the...
