Declining Fish Stock
As a human race our belief that the natural resources of our planet are plentiful and can be exploited as we wish without regard for the future has come to an end. Take the case of declining fish stock in the VLR. For a long time large fleets of fishing ships have stripped the oceans of the large size fish, to be exact 90%. (Berg n.d.) Just to give an example, in the video Mr. Dupuis boat can hold an average catch of 20,000 pounds of fish, this equates to about 200 fish per catch. Now if you can picture one boat catching 200 fish multiply this by thousands of boats all around the world doing the same catch in one outing.
Furthermore there are boats that are much larger and bigger capacity than Mr. Dupuis boat. To be able to implement a viable sustainment plan without having negative effects on the fishing industry, be able to reverse the damage done, and get fish levels up from where they are at now will take sacrifice on the part of the industry and population at large. We will need the involvement of the local government, the local fishing industry and the local population.
1st Community Education plan: this will involve community meetings on a monthly basis for the first six months and door to door visits for those unable to attend, these meetings will include updates on fish stock, new initiatives being implemented to better and grow our fish resources. Also questions and answer sessions will be taken at that time.
2nd Creation of a committee to lobby congress for subsidies for the local fishing industry in the area, this will be an ongoing process until terms are met for the local industry. Afterwards the committee will turn to a sustainment, implementation, and accountability for the entire fishermen in the area to follow guidelines provided by the laws enacted by congress.
3rd The committee will also be responsible for appointing and hiring marine biologists and scientist to do a study... [continues]
