Debate and discuss ‘critical thinking’ and how its application will be useful for a manager. Give reasons and real industry exam to explain. Organizations have developed from cavemen in pre-historic time, dividing into hunters and gatherers to large organizations such as Wal-Mart and United Nations. For the smooth running of an organization, a good management is a must. With time, management structure has changed too. It has transformed from allotting people to doing different tasks, to providing incentives along with it, till firms hiring specialist managers who use different theories in order to run an organization smoothly. For this, managements of the organizations need skilled professionals who can properly run the business while monitoring and dealing with various aspects of business such as sales targets, moves of competing firms, wants of consumers and management of workforce. Critical thinking is one of those very important skills which has been implemented and developed ever since the term management was coined. It is based on insightful thinking which acts as a purpose to tell decision makers what to do and what to follow. According to a statement made by Michael Scriven and Richard Paul, described at International Conference on Critical Thinking on 1987, critical thinking is defined as “The intellectually disciplined process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and/or evaluating information gathered from, or generated by, observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a guide to belief and action. In its exemplary form, it is based on universal intellectual values that transcend subject matter divisions: clarity, accuracy, precision, consistency, relevance, sound evidence, good reasons, depth, breadth, and fairness.” Critical thinking is basically situational thinking.
