Organizations are made up of many different areas of functions. Some of these functions include manufacturing, sales, and accounting. These functions carry out a very large amount of data and classify the data according to its category of function. Having a huge amount of data that is classified into the various groups makes it sometimes impossible to locate the data at a later time. This occurs because one piece of data might be in one group and another piece of data in a totally different category. What is the solution to this problem? Data warehouses were developed to prevent this from happening. (Laudon, K.C. & Laudon, J. P., n.d.) The A data warehouse is “a database that stores current and historical data of potential interest to decision makers throughout the company.” (Laudon, K.C. & Laudon, J. P., n.d.) The data warehouse then combines all the data and formalizes it into a standard form. This standard form becomes accessible throughout the organization for analyzing and making decisions. Although the data warehouse makes the data available for everyone to access the information, it doesn’t allow them to change the information at all. These systems hold a variety of tools that make it helpful for employees to analyze, compare, and make decisions with the data. (Laudon, K.C. & Laudon, J. P., n.d.) When researching the types of databases, I found four types of systems. The first type is the simplest form, Offline Operational Data Warehouses. These data warehouses are “where data is usually copied and pasted from real time data networks into an offline system where it can be used.” The next type is Offline Data Warehouses which is usually updated on a daily basis. Data is stored and consolidated allowing anyone in the company to gain access...
