I find that I am positive in most areas of my life but need to work on the honesty and finding ways to relieve stress to be more care free and not worry so much. I read an article published by San Jose Mercury News regarding a crime committed by an illegal immigrant. Authorities in San Fransisco, California, which people consider as a “sanctuary city”, wouldn’t hand over a certain illegal immigrant to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Additionally, the illegal immigrant was very dangerous considering he had seven felonies and the U.S. deported him five times. While enjoying a sunny day with her beloved father, Kate Steinle was shot by this man on a popular pier in San Fransisco on July 1, 2015. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the first time an undocumented immigrant murdered or inflicted pain upon a U.S. citizen or their loved ones. Furthermore, many attended a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, which includes the Steinles, in Washington D.C. on July 21, 2015. During the hearing, many lawmakers and senators proposed bills in order to both block federal funding of…

The day reporting center programs are a form of probation. The concept of probation was created by John Augustus, who was a Boston shoemaker, and was credited with being the “Father of Probation”. Augustus noticed through what took place in courts that minor offenders and alcohol abusers were sent to jail because of the inability to pay off fines. Being offended and disturbed by this action, Augustus made an agreement with authorities to pay off the offenders fines and give them friendly supervision. Between 1841 and 1858, Augustus bailed out about 2,000 men, women, and children. Through friendliness, confidence, and helping the offender obtain jobs while aiding their family, he was able to report on progress toward reformation and keep the…

In this quote, Chief Bromden says, “I been silent so long it’s going to roar out of me like floodwaters and you think the guy telling this is ranting and raving my God; you think this is too horrible to have really happened, this is too awful to be the truth! But, please. It’s still hard for me to have a clear mind thinking on it. But it’s the truth even if it didn’t happen.”(Act 1 32) Chief Bromden, a long-term patient in Nurse Ratcheds psychiatric ward, narrates the events of the novel. The novel begins as he awakes to a typical day on the ward, feeling paranoid about the nighttime activities of the wards three black aides. We are given this brainteaser from chief Bromden. The reader has already gotten a glimpse of Bromden’s paranoia, from the novels opening lines, as well as a sense that he is not seeing things from an everyday perspective. For example, Bromden describes Nurse Ratched transforming into a huge machine, and he has to be sedated when the aides try to shave him and he starts screaming, “Air Raid”. In this story, he claims himself not only the narrator, but the author. He has an important story to tell, even though it’s going to be hard for him. The last line of this quote is Bromden’s request that the reader have an open mind. His hallucinations imply that the audience shouldn’t believe everything he says in the novel. In my opinion, I believe that Bromden regains sanity, but he still witnesses many events while he is hallucinating.…

Neil Shah wrote this article which briefly covers the topics of unemployment and the natural unemployment rate. The way our economy has been on a downward slope has led to the need to write about the natural unemployment rate. There are more and more people losing their jobs. Not only do they lose their jobs, but the longer that they are out of the job market, the more uninterested future employees are at hiring them, thus putting them out for a long period of time. The article focuses on how the natural rate was 5%, but has increased more recently. It tries to determine what the underlying cause of the increase is. The natural rate is healthy because it leaves room for the ebb and flow of the economy. However, increasing this natural rate only means that there are more people than should be out of work. Neil Shah believes that the reason for the higher rate of unemployment is due to a weak demand for workers. The main issue with the higher unemployment rate is that the higher it gets, the Federal Reserves would like to join in an effort to help the economy, but by doing so it leaves a risk for a higher inflation.…

Family and religious values are important no matter what your cultural background may be. Success is often measured by how well one is able to provide for their family. Family can also be an agent of Sport Socialization. For example, when a child is raised seeing someone older in their family participating in sports, it may influence them to do the same. Religious values and sport have been intertwined for centuries. As far back as the first Olympic games in Greece, the Greek gods were thought to be watching over the stadium from Mount Olympus. Even now in the United States, which is a predominantly Christian nation, Sport has become a civil religion. Islam, imparticular, has very different stringent beliefs on competitive sport and having mixed gender physical activities. The intention of this research was to identify the young women’s involvement in the Widening Access Through Sport (WATS) project and to explore the parents’ expectations of their daughters in society.…
