Current Events #1: Sony, Acer and NEC Announce New Tablets

Microsoft released their tablet PC in 2001 as a pen-enabled personal computer running Windows XP.   Microsoft then launched the Slate PC to promote their Windows 7 operating system.   Apple Inc. released its line of iPads in 2010.   Apple Inc. tablet released its first tablet and sold over 3 million in less than three months.
It wasn’t up until recent months that Microsoft had decided to cut their prices for the tablet PC and sell their devices for prices starting at $99.00.   With such high reviews for the iPad and iPad2, who can compete?   Battery life, performance, looks, and the amount it can do in a small tablet are all factors of what looks to be what Apple Inc. had accomplished.   Now unless Sony, Acer and NEC can top the performance and blow their consumers and potential consumers away, they will see no accomplishment of releasing another tablet in the market.   They will need to look at their environment and see what is currently needed that isn’t already out there.   These companies will need to look at their competition (for example, Microsoft) and figure out where they went wrong to not be able to top Apple Inc’s tablet.
The article does state that Sony’s consumer slate will have an added PlayStation emulator and custom remote that can control Sony TVs, Blu-ray players and other compatible devices.   This can be considered an entertainment system all-in-one.   However, these are running from up to $550.00 and still do not exceed iPad2’s battery life.   iPad2’s starting price is $499.00.   They should look further into the market of tablets and find out if their newly released ones can compete.
