Culture Pops Off In Society
“Hey Kent, how many copies of Juno have you rented out this last year?” “Probably around 150, why do you ask?” “Oh, well what a coincidence, there have been roughly 100 pregnancies announced in the last month!” Pop culture has, is, and will be influential in everyone’s life. The influence pop culture has on people is an overall negative influence, and has a bad effect on people meaning young, adolescent, and adult. Although pop culture may be informative to people it has negative effects on all people, mostly naïve teens, and it leads people to change their lifestyles, change their lifestyles, change their attitudes toward people and things, and finally deteriorates their usage of the English language.
With the constant change in pop culture for our society many people try to stay up to date with the changes, many times going out of their ways and out of their normal lifestyles. Many people end up altering their lifestyles to feel accepted by society because of the pressure, all of this comes from the simplicity of a commercial, or even an actress wearing a nice fur coat. Pop culture influences many to change their lifestyles; several of those people do not even realize that they are doing this, kind of like a culture brainwash. Kalle Lasn says, “America is no longer a country, it is a multi-trillion-dollar brand. America is merely an image sold, not only to the citizens but to consumers worldwide (qtd Lasn xii).” Even America has become some kind of brand being sold; this is all a sheer picture of what pop culture has done to our society over all.
Pop culture has had a heavy influence on teen pregnancy, in 2006 alone the amount of teen’s births jumped up from thirty to forty births per thousand people to about seventy-three births per one thousand people.
