Many people questioned the meaning of the word “culture”. Culture is a design for living, a way of life, shared beliefs, values, norms, traditions and many other things. Culture is the uniquely human means of adaptation. Many components of culture consist of things such as language, location, food, perception, dress, religion, tradition, the norms,values and beliefs. Within many cultures there are various activities that people do and regular practices that coincide with society’s culture. Those activities are known as subcultures and countercultures. Sub Culture is a culture within a culture; and Counter Culture is a group or people that challenge the main stream culture. Our norms are or behaviors, the average expected behaviors, and predictable behaviors that reflects values and beliefs. Our values and morals ideas that relate to right and wrong, or good and bad. Our beliefs are ideas that ness origins which issues such as how did we get where we are today, the meaning od life, what happens are death and many other things. To most people symbols are cultural representations of reality. Every culture has its own set of symbols connected with different experiences and perceptions. Symbols occur in various forms such verbal,written, printed or unwritten. It can be anything that cgives something a meaning, such as words on the page, pictures, Clothing, homes, items are symbols that involve a certain level of social status. One of the most important human symbols is language. Language is a system of verbal and sometimes written ways that express meaning about the world. Edward Sapir and Benjamin Lee Whorf projected that languages influence perceptions. The Sapir-Whorf hypothesisis suggests that a person will more likely distinguish differences when he or she possesses words or concepts to describe the differences.
