This report has been prepared with two principle aims to explain the CSR activities of British American Tobacco Bangladesh through finding the Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives of the company, and to analyze the importance of corporate social responsibility to British American Tobacco Bangladesh CSR is an increasingly important tool for companies trying to improve their image. Tobacco companies, as they are not permitted to advertise or promote their products by law, engage in corporate social responsibility activities, which offer them an alternative route to reach various audiences. BAT is not any different CSR is an important part of their business, it is believed it is instrumental to the sustainability of BATs business. The Corporate Regulatory Affairs (CORA) department of BATB is in charge of carrying out the CSR activities of BATB. It has successfully been carrying on projects like Probaho (drinking water), Deepto (Solar Home System), Afforestation, Alternate fuel for tobacco curing, Integrated Pest Management Club, Biodiversity, Composite Pits, Biodiversity, Social Contributions for farmers. There are also other projects (Dishari) that are currently not being carried out. The CSR activities are important to BATB for numerous reasons. BAT subscribes to the HYPERLINK http//www.tobaccotactics.org/index.php/Institute_of_Business_Ethics o Institute of Business EthicsInstitute of Business Ethics, a charity encouraging high standards of business behavior based on ethical values. Since BATB is not permitted to advertise or promote its products by law, engaging in corporate social responsibility activities offers an alternative route to reach various audiences. Engagement in CSR activities also has serious strategic issues gives BATB a number of strategic advantages. BATB is highly committed to its CSR activities because not only it provides BATB with strategic advantages, but it also gives BATB the pathway needed to attract customers in a controversial market. While the endless debates regarding the tobacco industry will persist, there is no doubt that BATBs CSR activities give it tremendous edge in not only carrying on its operational activities, but that too as a leading multinational organization. In some models, a firms implementation of CSR goes beyond compliance and engages in actions that appear to further some social good, beyond the interests of the firm and that which is required by law.
