Was Oliver Cromwell a brave loyal hero! Or a tyrant of a villain? I’m going to give evidence about Cromwell! Some people think of him as a great king and leader but others see him as a mean tyrant. Do people Judge Cromwell too early? Or are they right!? I’m going to prove that Cromwell was a VILLIAN.
Cromwell was a villain because he went to Ireland and thought, he treated them really curly! He never gave them mercy to surrender. That means he broke the laws of war. When he was in Drogheda he took a new born baby and hammered it onto the local church door! He also used babies as shields in war! This is not the only thing he did.
There one thing that that Cromwell did that caused a problem! Some people thought that Cromwell was a better leader than King Charles I so Cromwell had Charles I executed! (Charles had his head chopped off) this caused some people devastation! But the rest of England thought that what England needed a new start with a new king! But Cromwell didn’t become king straight away, he was just the leader of the new model army!
In 1653, Oliver Cromwell decided to close parliament. Cromwell was one of the people on the jury which tried Charles 1st after the second Civil war. This jury sentenced Charles 1st to death, which makes Cromwell guilty for Charles’s murder! Cromwell had already killed many in battle and sentenced other people as part of a parliament.
