The youth in conflict with the law whose details are going to be analyzed further is a male and is twenty years of age. In order to develop a complete understanding of the youth it is important to study the family dynamics and the ethnic background of the individual. The youth’s family comprises of a father, mother, elder brother and a younger sister. The parents emigrated from India to Canada in 1988, resulting in the ethnic background of the youth as East-Indian descent. The family is a traditional Punjabi family, who is strongly connected to the cultural and religious practices involved within the religion. Currently, the parents run a small business, which consists of importing and exporting various textiles from across the globe. The family owned business has successfully been operating for the past fifteen years and employees over fifty employees and operates from three locations situated across the GTA (Greater Toronto Area). Currently, his younger sister has just entered high-school. The youths elder brother is a certified mechanic and operates his own repair shop, which has been in business for approximately two years and is looking to expand in the near future. Moreover, the youth himself was born in Canada, in the city of Scarborough, located in the province of Ontario.
The youth attended elementary school in Scarborough, in a city where he spent most of his childhood years. However, when the youth entered middle school the family decided to move to Mississauga because of worsening neighbourhood conditions, where violence and drug dealing was becoming an increasing trend. As a result, the youth needed to make a transition to a different city, and in the process lost his childhood friends. Not only that, the parents decided to shortly move after to Brampton in order to take advantage of a potential business opportunity.
