Critical Incident (rewrite)
Context
This report is about an experience I had while I was asked work with several people in my class which is called team working or group working. My teacher said this is an important skill that university’s students need to adapt. Teachers did not get involved in our group work which means the teacher would not supervise the students’ job.
Incident details
When I received my group members’ list. I had no idea for team work. It confused me very much about how we could work together effectively. When my group received the research topic from the teacher, we did not start to discuss and distribute task for each member. When we came together to combine individuals’ work, it was a terrible thing that we faced. Some members had not even started their job or just did it sketchily. As a result, my group had a poor report and lack of evidence to complete the task which is turn meant my group needed to rewrite the report again.
Feeling and concern
I felt unsatisfied with the result. Some members devoted their time to finish their job whereas some did not do anything. Also, I was angry that they did not tell all members that they do not finish or understand the topic or their problem. Perhaps this was the first time for me and other members which resulted in bad group work.
Impact
This incident was a memorable experience for me and other student as well. It is a good lesson for students to study the methodological of group work. Communication is one of the keys to help you open the relationship with classmates.
Significance
The incident was important which helped me release the importance of group work. The essentiality is communication between members because you can receive enough information from your group members through communication. Next, the distribution task is a factor which could help the group to reach their purpose. We should understand other

There was conflict when group members did not show up at group members ans we felt that not everybody was contributing to their best abilities. One group member did not even bother to have a text book and I as a leader made sure she got a copy of the case. It was in the group’s best interest that she be given a copy. Then we met for the first time not everybody had read the case and it was apparent and frustrating. Then we were rushed for time and we met the professor and only two out of five could meet the professor. Then we cracked the case and not all members were present at every meeting. It was hard to work as a team. Then I decided to host two meetings at home and the last one brought us closer together since we shared some snacks and personal…

Through this group assignment, I really learned much. First, I realize that I should learn more about finance and accounting .when talking about the last part in presentation during discussion, I cannot participate in the debate, and even do not know what they said when comes some proper nouns. Although my major is logistics, it is good for me to learn more about other subject knowledge such as finance and management. Second is although we had discussion many times, we were inefficient and wasted much time. We supposed to have a target or task for each discussion, and leader need to coordinate the meeting. In addition, democracy does not work every time in small group, everyone has a different idea and wants to persuade others, which is the reason that a good leader is very important for a team, so that I should start to train leadership skills. Third is that unity and cooperation are essential to a good team. Team members need to work for…

Natasha did do this, but I think some members of the group lacked a little urgency when doing their work. Natasha, Adam and I worked very hard in trying to put together a detailed and satisfactory presentation for our product, having to do some other peoples work to make sure it was done. Michael, worked well but didn’t really turn up in class which made it difficult for us to know what exactly work he had done. Becky and Joe didn’t really make much contribution to the group, Becky put together some of the advertising and did a sufficient amount, but Joe did nothing to contribute to the presentation. Overall, the main outcome of how the team thought I contributed was good. They said that I worked well to bring together everyone’s information to create the business plan and that I helped them with anything they were struggling with. Myself, I thought that I could have worked a little harder on the business plan and make sure that it was in complete detail, but it was hard when I didn’t quite know what everyone had…

Every group is distributed with a balance student’s criteria on different team roles like leader, doer, achiever, thinker and carer. With the highest score in thinker attributes among the 5 roles, I had assigned to a team of 4 acts as a thinker role. During the forming stage, the team showed hard work ethic. Rules were put into place that all members agreed to keep. The rules mainly consisted of communicating any issues, and have the assignment done to be put together two days before the due date. Assignments were done with ease. The quality of work was excellent, and finished on time. As assignments started to get harder the team moved into the storming stage. A higher expectation was given with the assignments, as the assignment began to be more demanding. The team members had to plan in order to be on the same page with the assignments. Each member had great enthusiasm and ideas of what would be a great plan for the assignments. While different ideas came, the group had to agree on one plan. This put some of the team members on edge, because of the differences in ideas. The team struggled on a few assignments, but still got good grades. As this happened, the students went into the norming stage of development. All members of the group started to trust the other member’s ideas and became open to doing work in different ways. The team had to work together rather than individually at this point in order to be on the same page. The work became easy and enjoyable for…

Initially, I had a negative view on group working because of the challenges that I had. When I was in high school, my five other friends and I used to work together in a music competition. Although we were supposed to get together to practice for the event, we were only able to meet up once a week. In addition to having a hard time with time scheduling, we often did not have a consensus of opinion. Whenever we had a discussion, we usually ended up with no results. So it always took a long time for us to make a decision. Consequently, the performance did not turn out as well as we expected. Because of this initial failure, I thought group work was time consuming and ineffective. However, I have changed my opinion lately because of the successful results in some of my laboratory classes. In each laboratory assignment, it is nearly impossible to work by myself because there are a lot of steps and each step needs to be very precise and accurate. Therefore, a group of two or three students will work more effectively compared to an individual because they can help to remind each other and finish the assignment faster. Based on those experiences, one more time I give myself a chance to work in a group and figured out how work effectively. Finally, thank to the Small group communication class, I found out that group work can become very productive if all the members in the group cooperate and follow the principles of small group communication. In this paper, I want to talk…

McDermott (2002) suggests that groups are defined by consisting of at least two persons, that share space and share a purpose. The interactions taking place amongst members may be important in the development of common goals, norms and roles, and some sense of belonging. Within the context of a group, participants find the possibility of making comparisons between themselves and others, which can become an influential source of control and reward for members. Therefore the group work undertaken may play a part in defining the individual's sense of reality. McDermott further concludes that, while groups are extremely powerful phenomena, they also hold the possibility and potential of learning how to share that power. The individual and other group participants interact and create a social experience both in the ‘here and now’ as well as in their own minds with their interpretations of what is happening. The group in the group work module consisted of 4 members, including me and the educator. When I first I had some doubt if it would be possible to see group dynamics developing in such a small group, in reality the group was very dynamic, especially at the last weekend when we had two days followed by each other. The educator worked with us as a class but also modelled at the same time our group work. The group task was the learning outcome as stated in the Module outline and the goal is to cover the content areas. The process focused on how the group developed; when the process is going well then the group is dynamic, which our group was even though we where dealing with a member that for the first half of the module was not as involved in the process than the other three members due to tiredness. As a group participant I learned a lot about myself and how I react being in a group. When meeting new people I am at first shy and introvert until I know the other group members better and have…

Group work is something that has been hit or miss in the work or school world for a very long time. There is a very negative attitude about group work the second it is assigned. The truth is that group work can actually make the performance of the individuals go down but, there are also very positive aspects to group work that many people don’t usually think of. Every page of the chapter 5 “Working with others” expands the most necessary qualities to learn how to work with others. This part of book contains following important information: the benefits and ways of working with others, making the group work, talking and listening skills, making your point, being an effective group member and ever dealing with difficult moments in the group. Furthermore, according to Cottrell you will gain different perspectives and views, your own thinking will be wide and stretched, your ideas progressive, and you will have a source of support. Nevertheless, it is quite natural for groups to have problems. For instance, one member can bring out people’s worry. Subsequently, it can result in aggression or failure to contribute. Also, this chapter reveals such various necessary themes as: developing strategies for making a confident oral presentation, studying support networks, prejudice, unfairness and discrimination. In my opinion, the key point of the chapter is to develop the communication skills, which will be useful in work and in life generally.…
