CJS is one of the major public services in the country. Across the CJS, agencies such as the Police, the Courts, the Prison Service, the Crown Prosecution Service and the National Probation Service work together to deliver the criminal justice process
The criminal justice system consists of a number of separate agencies that in theory gel together to produce a just outcome when a crime has been committed.

The following will be discussed how the system works to one of its specific functions – bringing offenders to justice which involves the work of the police service, the CPS and the courts.
Punishment did not appear to work and the prisons were bulging with convicted criminals, who time after time re – offended. There were also problems and issues with the cost and the influences of traditional Criminal Justice System. (Hughes 2002 P3)
Criminal Justice System consist of three main parts the first law enforcement - the Home Office, the Attorney General's Office, and the Department for Constitutional Affairs.   in the Criminal Justice System the people are represented by two separate groups. Criminal Justice agencies are intended to operate within the rule of law.
Crime controls have distinguished only between two broad kinds of measures, formal and informal social control. Formal control refers to societies formally constituted legal instructions of the Law and the Criminal Justice System designed to sanction offenders to confine or rehabilitate them, and to deter crime among the population at large. An informal social control refers to society’s attempts through people’s supervision of each attempt through people’s supervision of each other’s behaviour or reinforced by rule making.
