Creative Strategies to Address Missouri Congressman Todd Akin's Article

Creative Thinking
The strategies I would use for applying creativity to the problems and issues in addressing the topic of, Missouri Congressman Todd Akin, and the article on his stance on abortion and rape victims would be to first change the title of the article. While the title is very catchy and hooks the audience from the beginning, it also throws a big sign that says, “Read me I am biased”. The next strategy I would use would be analogy. This particular topic is a very sensitive topic and because of the sensitivity I would use free association along with analogy, and give real life examples and let the audience produce their own bias. I can see why the columnist has a bias but by using analogy, and free association I believe the same results can be achieved without shouting, “Hey, I am biased!”
By using free association alone will promote curiosity by merely letting one idea suggest another and sparking the reader’s imagination. Moreover, in regard to this particular subject matter, the strategy for using unusual combinations, construct pro and con arguments, and construct relevant scenarios would add some definite depth to the article while allowing the audience to once again form their own opinion and bias. The unusual combinations would be ideal to use with an analogy, maybe something men can relate to better, or even suggesting the women in their family. For women it is easier to imagine being in a possible scenario of the damage rape can cause but for men it is more difficult. The use of constructing pro and con arguments would be very beneficial for individuals who are not knowledgeable on the subject. All of these strategies can be used in conjunction while achieving the wanted outcome.
The methods previously mentioned would help eliminate the bias from the original article by allowing the reader’s to form their own bias which would be ideal from the writer’s stand point by not forcing any particular bias

Many writers like to put time and thought into their work. Putting in all their own thoughts can sometimes not be a good thing. While I was reading several articles about Rosa Parks I have noticed that in every article that I read have some sort of bias in them. Throughout the articles, the authors show several points of bias within their background, point of view, and purpose.…

As a researcher, I can identify that bias by the author's argument appealing more emotional than logical, the writing piece have a limited view of the topic, and aspects of the writing are worded with the intention of oversimplifying and over generalizing. I can attempt to overcome that bias by refraining my usage of generalizations, support statements in my writing with facts & research, write objectively, and write inclusively. Writing objectively means to write without having a preset opinion or presenting a personal preference in your writing piece. Writing inclusively means to make sure that you are not excluding nor implying inferiority within your writing. Another way you can attempt to overcome that bias is to be specific in your writing…

The biopsychosocial model is a general model or approach stating that biological, psychological and social factors, all play a significant role in human functioning in the context of disease or illness. It posits that, health and well being is best understood in terms of a combination of all three factors. When we talk about biopsychosocial well being, the concept of sex or sexual behavior cannot be ignored because it is influenced by biological, psychological and social factors. Days of conventional, procreative sex are long gone. These days, individuals (victims of abnormal sexual behavior by partners or predators) are gravely affected, mentally, physically and emotionally by said sexual behavior which may be unconventional, violent and dangerous.…

Many of the attitudes, beliefs, and mistaken ideas about rape have been with us for centuries. By looking at myths, such as "women ask for it," and "women secretly enjoy rape," from a historical perspective, lead us for better understanding how they evolved. Women are still seen as the property of men, are protected as such. Men and women are still taught to occupy very different roles in today's world. Men are usually in power positions, and women are seen as passive. This socialization process is changing, but slowly.…
