Compare and Contrast Essay
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” The earth was empty and formless and was without any living creatures. God began to create the earth and did so in six days. On day one God created light and darkness. Day two, He created the heavens and the earth. On day three He created dry land, the seas, and vegetation. On day four He created the sun, moon, and stars. On Day five He created creatures in the water and birds in the sea and on day six He created land animals and humans. Finally, on the seventh day He rested. There are many comparisons and contrasts between the Genesis account and the Chinese creation myth however, only one is true and offers hope.

In the Chinese creation myth there was a large, black egg that carried all of creation. Inside of the egg there was a man named Pan Gu and after eighteen thousand years he awakes from a deep sleep. He felt suffocated so he uses a broadax to break open the egg to release himself. The light cleared off and floated up to become the heavens and the cold matter stayed below and became earth. Pan Gu lived in the middle, his head was touching the heavens and his feet were touching the earth. The heavens began to grow at ten feet per day and after another eighteen thousand years the earth and sky had become higher and thicker. Once Pan Gu died his breath became the wind and clouds. His voice became the thunder and one of his eyeballs became the sun and moon. His body and limbs became five large mountains and his blood formed the waters. His veins became far-stretching roads and his muscles the fertile land. The stars in the sky came from his hair and beard and the flowers and trees came from his skin and the hair on his body. Also the radiance of his eyes became thunder and lightning. If we were to compare the Genesis account of creation with the Chinese myth we would see several similarities. One of these similarities is that in each account there was only one creator....
