Do you think that people, of all races, should be treated equally? Abraham Lincoln once said, “Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. “ In early 1861, a huge problem was growing in the US. The slave states and the free states disagreed about whether slavery should be allowed in the new western territories. Lincoln was against the spread of slavery in the west. When Lincoln became president in November of 1861, the slave states attacked the Union’s Fort Sumter, in South Carolina. That was when the Civil War had begun, when men were not considered equal and prejudice was a monster that mocked fairness. To this day the war college has pictures of Civil War fighters. Recently, though, the Army War College was trying to remove pictures of two confederate generals, Lee and Jackson. When Lincoln said “...men are created equal”, I believe that Lee and Jackson should, also, be equally respected in the Army war College. When people say that Confederates should not be praised because they fought against America, I remember that they fought against slavery and the wrong doing against other men, who weren’t treated equally. Everyone agrees that the generals from the Civil War are a part of our history, but some believe that there should not be pictures of Civil War generals, Lee and Jackson, in the Army War College. The Army War College should not remove the pictures of Civil War generals, Lee and Jackson, for three reasons. Lee was a great part of the Civil War. Jackson was a great part of the Civil War. The Pictures are a great part of the Civil War.
