Course description:
This course provides a foundation for understanding the operations of a firm. The objective is to provide the basic skills necessary to critically analyze a firm's operating performance and practices. Such knowledge is important for careers in a variety of areas, including general management, entrepreneurship, investment banking, venture capital and management consulting. The course consists of a set of topics that are fundamental to understanding operations in a wide range of industries.
Course objective:
The objective of the course is to develop an understanding of the basic principles of Operations Management, role of 0perations Management in a firm's success and to develop ability to structure and solve simple operations related problems analytically. The course will also try to explore the interaction of Operations Management with other functional areas of a firm.
Instruction methods:
The chief method of instruction will be Lectures. Some concepts will be illustrated using cases from a diverse set of businesses. Tutorial sessions will be used for analytical problem solving.
1 A note on the Code of Conduct:
No student will come to the class unprepared. Group efforts should be based on the "equal work" principle. Any reason for absenteeism or lack of adequate preparation will have to be discussed with the course teacher. This class believes in the honesty of individual effort.
