Do you want to look and feel beautiful? Do you want to help people make them feel better about themselves? Cosmetologists can work from head to toe depending on what you want to work on. Cosmetologists provide beauty services that include caring for the cosmetic condition of hair, skin, and nails. The field of cosmetology encompasses several occupations, including hairstylist and hairdresser, shampooer, barber, skincare specialist, and nail technician. Cosmetologists help people look the way they want and let them feel better about themselves. To work in cosmetology there are some requirements that cosmetologists are going to need. Cosmetologists have to have good vision so they can see and know what they are doing. They must have people skills to connect with the costumers. Customers may not always know what they want, you have to invite them in, and make them feel welcomed. For the cosmetologist themselves have to look and feel professional (Heos 8). Creativity is a must. Cosmetologists have to be able to help their clients select new hairstyles. Good customer service skills are imperative. Cosmetologists have to have them if they want to build a following of customers. In order to understand what their customers want, they need good listening, good time management skills to keep things running smoothly in a shop, and must be appreciated by owners as well as customers who do not want to be kept waiting. Cosmetologists spend a great deal of time on their feet. They need good physical stamina to be able to be a cosmetologists. There are also responsibilities cosmetologists are going to have. If the cosmetologist are planning to own their own shop they are going to have to make sure that they have all their bills paid, make sure the shop looks decent, have all the supplies they are going to need, and also hire other great friendly cosmetologists. To become a cosmetologist, applicants must go to school and receive training. Cosmetologists need to attend a state-licensed cosmetology school and be at least 16 years old. The training does not stop there for cosmetologists. Most cosmetologists work in this field to continue to take advance courses that help them stay abreast of the latest trends. All personal appearance workers, including hairstylists, hairdressers, and cosmetologists have to be licensed. Shampooers do not need to be licensed. Upon completion of a state-approved training program in cosmetology, one must take a state-administered licensing exam. There are generally separate exams for manicurists, pedicurists, and skin care specialists. Many states have reciprocity with one another, which means that if a cosmetologist is licensed in one state they can get license in another state without taking another exam. If someone enrolls in cosmetology school they will acquire all the technical skills needed to work in this field. The possible schools for the education can be from any community college or beauty school (“Barbers, Hairdressers, and Cosmetologist”). In cosmetology school, the students will need lots of supplies. For training barbers, they are going need a barber kit.
