A challenge in someone’s life can be something as little as having to defend your point of view to something as major like having to re-evaluate your understanding of something. In Cosi a play by Louis Nowra various characters are faced with challenges and throughout the play some characters rise to the challenges put before them and overcome them, others fail. Using that concept Louis Nowra hopes to communicate the challenges that people must undergo in their life. Louis Nowra uses the play within a play technique so that he can easily explore various themes some examples being love, madness and war. Louis Nowra manages to use the characters in the play “Cosi” to represent the different themes that both “Cosi” and “Cosi fan tutte” represent.
Throughout the play Louis Nowra uses Lewis as a portrait of being faced with new events that challenge an individual’s view on love and how an individual has to re-evaluate their view and understanding of love. Louis Nowra also uses him to represent the theme of love within the play. An important quote from Lewis is him saying.
“Without love the world wouldn’t mean much”
Is quite important because it portrays how an individual might see that love is necessary in the world and that without it the world would not be worth living in. It also shows that Lewis is the representation of love. Yet Louis Nowra straight away puts out a challenge to that view when he decides to reveal the affair between Lucy and Nick to Lewis which addresses the point that Louis Nowra is trying to communicate. An individual’s view on love being challenged by new events.
Louis Nowra again uses Lewis to communicate the obstacles that are in the way when having to overcome the challenges that people are faced with when they want to undertake a certain project.
