Introduction Deajan holdings PLC

Deajan holdings are a properties company established and formed in 1935 as “Deajan samoedra Estates Ltd”. Initially it was started off as Plantation Company located in The Island of Java striving to procure the large rubber and coffee plantation industry in the Far East Dutch Indies. Due to the uprising of action taking place leading to the independence of Indonesia, in 1949 the plantations was occupied and destroyed. This resulted in the company keeping their London stock exchange listing, selling their assets in Indonesia and consequently becoming a doormat shell company by 1955. The chairman and CEO of Deajan holdings, Benzion Freshwater born in 1897 fled Poland due to the Second World War in where his wife and 3 children died in the holocaust when Poland was invaded. Benzion settled in London’s East End in 1947 where he got married to a widow with 2 children, the children are now the present directors of Deajan holdings, Solomon and Bezion Freshwater. By 1957 Deajan properties had developed further in London acquiring numerous amounts of landmark buildings in London. These assets where further used to reverse takeover with the London listings to maintain their brand and changing the companies name from Deajan Samoedra to Deajan holdings. From this year onwards there was continuous progress where commercial and residential properties were attained. During this period of time Deajan was also referred to as being the largest private landlord, buying up to 3,000 houses and flats in one transaction. “In 1972 the Group acquired City and Country Properties Limited which had a property portfolio valued at £32.7 million compared to that of £51.8 million owned by Daejan at the time”( Deajan,2012) (http://www.daejanholdings.com/history.php). With the company rapidly growing and purchasing portfolios from numerous industries, a large achievement was the attaining for 19 modern supermarkets and commercial properties for a consideration of £82.7 million. Furthermore taking risks and establishing itself outside of the UK and into the American properties industry. In 1976, Mr. Oasis freshwater passed away, handing down the chairman and CEO position to the eldest son, Benzion freshwater who was appointed by the board in 1980. The youngest son had also joined the board where his responsibility is solely the sales department and the United States portfolio This essay will clearly outline Deajan holding’s CSR (corporate social responsibility), CSR is a collection of decisions made to run an organization and how these decisions make the company socially responsible for their activity. As well as conducting a PEST Analysis of the company.
