Managerial Responsibility Project
Part I: Ethical /Social Issue Positions
The issue I like to discuss is discrimination and the social responsibility within the corporate workplace. I honestly feel that the majority of corporate companies do NOT practice discrimination and Are socially responsible. There are a number of reasons why I feel this way. First and foremost, I see an increase in the “open door policy” most companies have. I also see how human resources are a big factor in the corporate world. Most companies embrace Unions and Union stewards to maintain a “fair” atmosphere in the workplace and ensure that employee rights are not violated. I have also notice an increase in job positions in the business law environment. I see more companies expanding their legal department to prevent lawsuits and have access to unlimited legal advice. Not only do companies utilize their legal department to go over policies and guidelines before they implement them to the specified departments, but managers and supervisors can then, utilize these resources and are provided with guidelines to limit any discrimination that could easily occur. I have also seen companies support and give back to their community by donating to, participating and partnerships with organizations, such as the March of Dimes or Walk for Breast Cancer. For these reasons, I feel you find discrimination less prevalent and social responsibility more common among corporate businesses. I also believe this is a result of years of the American People working to transform (reform) and modify our ever changing work environment.
