It is important to inform individuals in the public that smoke about a disease of
the lungs called “chronic obstructive pulmonary disease” (COPD). Someone may
ask how chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is diagnosed? Individuals that
smoke for many years and experience difficulty breathing may likely be at risk of
having chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Therefore, smoking in early years
of life may lead to higher risks of getting the lung disease. Those individuals that
experience problems breathing may need to consult a physician for advice. So the
individual can seek treatment. It is recommended that individuals are informed on
how to avoid the lung disease COPD.
Smoking is the main cause of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, also
called emphysema or chronic bronchitis. A diagnosis of COPD should be
considered if there are patients complaining of dyspnea, long term coughs, or
sputum (mucus) production with history of repeated exposures to noxious stimuli.
This disease becomes a factor for patients when the patient tends to have major
problems with breathing. Therefore, patient’s airways become blocked and
damage the lungs. Anyone who wants to avoid risk should take precautions to not
obtain the lung disease “chronic obstructive pulmonary disease” by not smoking
at all in life.
