Some people “dally in the shadows” and contemplate on which “road to take,” while other people “jump in head first.” “The Road Not” is a poem about the choice between two decisions the narrator must make. “To be of use” is a poem about how people in the world today need to stop sitting around, being lazy and go out, find work, and do it to the best of their abilities.“The Road Not Taken” and “To be of use” are two poems in which their meanings differ, one is about making a decision and the other is about getting the job done. The “Road Not Taken” and “To be of use” are two incomparable poems because they have completely different meanings. The “Road Not Taken” is a poem written about a man coming to a point in his life where he had to choose between two options. He thought long and hard about what decision he was going to make. However, “To be of use” just states how people need to “jump into work head first without dallying in the shadows and swim off with sure strokes almost out of sight.” In other words, the author is saying do no think about what to do, just do it. Where as, the narrator in “The Road Not Taken,” thinks about what is going to happen in the future. However in “To be of use,” the narrator is writing about what needs to happen in present day, not thinking about the past. The final difference in their meaning is “The Road Not Taken” talks about two decisions to make, which road to go down, and “To be of use” talks about one decision, go out and work hard. “The Road Not Taken” does not speak about work and “To be of use” does not talk abut decisions in life. “To be of use” and “The Road Not Taken” contrast in many ways, but the major difference is their meanings. Though each meaning is different, they but both can be applied into people’s own lives because though people will always have decisions to make in life, one decision we should not have to make is the act of working hard.
