One growing issue in my state is the poor and low income families. In today’s society, a good paying job is hard to come by. Some growing issues with this problem are the amount of money that it costs to help the growing population survive. Most employment available now, is minimum wage. Making minimum wage may be enough to support a family of two but not a family of four. This is where the need for assistance comes in. When you are a family with children, things can get expensive and this is where the problem comes to play. Things like food, mortgage/rent, clothing, bills, and other expenses add up. It’s harder and harder to stay afloat and keep your head above water. To help with these problems, the state of Illinois has programs, designed to help with low income families. These programs include help with food, insurance, help with bills and even childcare. One important program that helps keep food on the table is called The Snap Program. The snap program is for government food assistance. This program takes into consideration of the amount of people under the same household and determines an amount suitable for that family. Things like alcohol and cigarettes are not allowed on this program. This is for strictly food to feed their family. The other assistance offered for food is food banks.
